An Artist’s World Released!

Standard

BRAND NEW!
The third and final book of 87-year-old artist Dan Wetta’s trilogy of his life’s work: An Artist’s World, Tricks of Illusion! This third volume exhibits many of his unique stained glass paintings on canvas done in 15th century block style. And, of course, more paintings, stories, and cartoons. There are fun chapters of his sketches done on airplanes to overcome his fear of flying, sketches of bus riders with speculation on their thoughts, and a chapter of drawings of a tick-tock clock run amuck in an art gallery! These three volumes of art (An Artist’s Life, An Artist’s Vision, and An Artist’s World) define the collection of works spanning the author’s lifetime and available for private placement as one or three collections.
An Artist’s World is now available in the CreateSpace store https://www.createspace.com/5638868 and soon available at all bookstore online outlets, including Amazon and Barnes&Noble.

Old Paintings Found!

Standard

Those who have been following artist Dan Wetta’s posts here, on Twitter, Google Plus, Facebook and other social media sites know that my actively-engaged 87-year-old father is trying to place his life’s collection of art in a gallery, museum, or with a private collector. These include hundreds of paintings and cartoons. This collection and the stories behind them have been published in a seven e-book series (El Artista: A Lifetime of Curiosity) and in three beautiful books in print. (Two are published and are currently selling. The third book will be available within the next couple of weeks.)

The artist through the years has retained or reacquired or documented almost all the works of his life. So to discover missing paintings now has become an event of excitement in our family.

Recently a talented young member of the family came forth with a poem entitled “The Blue Forest,” which she said she had named after a painting of the same title, a painting which she had inherited upon the death of my father’s sister, Joan. She is Megan Wetta, a recent college graduate, and herself talented in art and writing. I will soon be publishing this poem along with several others of hers, and the beautiful painting is displayed in my father’s to-be-published third book in print: An Artist’s World, Lighter Days. When Megan first sent me a photo of this painting, I immediately recognized it as the handiwork of my dad.

That was exciting, but a big surprise occurred when I recently began to clean and organize my attic. We have been in our house twenty years, and in the attic I found three paintings and a charcoal drawing done by the artist in the late 1950s and 1960s. The charcoal sketch was of me when I was about 10 years old. There was a painting of my younger brother, Stephen, when he was about 8. But the treasures were two paintings done in oil by the artist. These were rare because he abandoned oil painting around 1969. One of them, “The White Tree and Stream,” is an imaginary scene, but is based on a creek in woods that were behind the house that my brother and I grew up in. These woods and the creek were an essential part of the playground of the childhoods of Stephen and me. The woods made it into his novel, If Jack’s In Love, and it also was a backdrop for a chapter in my first novel, The Z Redemption

The other oil painting dates from 1969, and it is a real scene that my father painted. The artist cannot remember exactly where in Henrico County, Virginia the bridge was located, but he surmises that the old country road near it is long gone. This painting, along with the other, was found in time to be included in the artist’s third print book.

Nightfire! Free E-book Story!

Standard

The sins of the grandfather determine the destiny of Corvette Nightfire! Live through “Nightfire!” the heart-rending experiences of Día and Luna, the Tarahumara Indians of Chihuahua, who were Corvette’s grandparents! Written in the fast-paced style of The Z Redemption novels, this romantic thriller seats you in the turbulent lives of the unusual Mexican ancestors forming Corvette’s murky family history.

A prequel to the novel, Corvette Nightfire, this nine-thousand-word short story details the mystery of Día and Luna. Growing up in the rugged mountains and cliffs of the Copper Canyon in northern Mexico, Día and Luna married while teenagers. They were proud members of the people famous world-wide for their ability to run for days in the mountains and steep canyons of their homeland. When Día became seduced by the lures of the Mexican drug-cartel men who invaded the mountains to grow poppy and marijuana, he pulled Luna with him into a life of enslavement to crime. For decades, the drug cartels had forced many of the young Indian men and women to run their marijuana through the desert and across the border into the United States. As the cartels moved into the mountains of Chihauhua, they stole the lands of the natives, who retreated deep into the precipitous canyons for safety.

Written in the fast-paced style of the novels of The Z Redemption trilogy, “Nightfire!” is a stand-alone short story that is bonus material for the second volume of the series (Corvette Nightfire). Día’s plan to escape the drug cartel gets complicated by the birth of his son, Rogelio, in Texas in 1963. Moving and suspenseful, the story describes Día’s desperate plot to escape with Luna from their lives of forced crime. What happened as a consequence ended up impacting the life of a future grandson Día had never contemplated. His actions also altered the course of two nations!

As an artist, I have exhibited at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and I was a member of the Richmond, Virginia Artists Association for about fifteen years.

Why I own my life collection:

The Richmond Artists Association used to exhibit at malls and other public places in the 1960’s and 70’s. One day a City of Richmond License Agent came by one of our exhibits with a note book and wrote down the names of artists who did not have a City Sales Tax License. When I got the City license, the IRS said I had to file a quarterly employee return even though I had no employees, and then the State said I had to get a business license. Then the malls got worried about liability and required us to get individual liability insurance. Rules and regulations were taking up so much of my painting time that I said to heck with it, and quit exhibiting. As a result, I have accumulated hundreds of paintings, drawings and cartoons over the years. The publication of this art in books enables me to share my art truly at a global level.

My entire collection of original works is available for private acquisition by collectors, galleries or museums.

I have divided my works into three collections, each collection defined by the art in my three print books: An Artist’s Life, An Artist’s Vision, and An Artist’s World (the latter to be published by August, 2015). For inquiries regarding my collections, please contact my son, author Daniel Wetta, Jr., via e-mail at cursillo86@yahoo.com
